How We Work

Our fundamental approach is to work with our clients to create an appropriate long-term strategy to meet their objectives, and develop and implement a set of programmatic activities to help them achieve these goals. We engage in long-term collaborations and consulting engagements with organizations that are committed to improving health care and education. PHMI's active project role can typically be categorized in one of three ways: Advise, Review, or Co-Develop.

Most of PHMI’s new projects begin with a short-term engagement of three to six months that includes an on-site visit to the client by a PHMI team selected for their relevant expertise and experience. This strategic planning and assessment engagement provides an opportunity for PHMI to interface with all of our client project’s key stakeholders in order to assure alignment around a strategic vision and approach that takes into consideration the multiple on-the-ground factors that are likely to have an impact on the client’s envisioned project.

In our experience these short-term engagements have been crucial in building a strong foundation for project success, and have enabled our clients to plan effectively so as to anticipate and minimize difficulties over the course of the project’s detailed planning and execution. PHMI’s most robust and effective long-term collaborations have begun with such an engagement. A dedicated project team consults with client counterparts to maintain an ongoing assessment of the client's needs, so that together we can develop appropriate scopes of work for each phase of the relationship.

"PHMI offers a fantastic opportunity to take the best practices of quality improvement into the global arena. As health care recognizes that continuous process improvement (CPI) is the foundation for outstanding patient care, the demand is high for a robust, user-friendly CPI approach that extends beyond accreditation. I’m excited about taking our approach to global projects where leadership is interested and committed to pushing the CPI envelope."
