Mr. Gillis joined then-Harvard Medical International in July 1999. He is responsible for strategic health care planning and facilities development with a focus on clinical program planning, space planning, concept design, medical equipment specifications, organizational development, health care information systems, management, human resources, development of departmental policies and procedures, and commissioning. Mr. Gillis has extensive experience in academic radiology, health care management and finance, high-tech equipment specification and selection, clinical program development, evaluation and implementation of Healthcare Information Systems, space planning, design development, and project commissioning.

Mr. Gillis first worked with Harvard Medical International as an independent consultant on hospital development projects in Germany, India, the Phillipines, and Thailand. Prior to joining HMI he was Director of Health Care Facilities Development at Adam & Associates International. He was also Senior Director for Diagnostic Services at Health Care International in Clydebank, Scotland. In this position, Mr. Gillis participated in the design, construction, equipping, staffing, and commissioning of a 260-bed, high-tech tertiary care teaching hospital and 168-room four-star hotel, which was specifically designed to cater to international patients and their families.

Before his involvement in international health care projects, Mr. Gillis was Director of Administration and Finance at the Harvard Medical School - Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Department of Radiology, where he managed the operations and finances of this large academic medical center department. In a parallel position, Mr. Gillis was Vice President and Treasure of the HMS-BWH-DFCI Radiology Foundation, Inc., a 50l(c)(3) not-for-profi t corporation he established in 1975. He has lectured, published and is a Registered Radiographer, licensed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Mr. Gillis received his bachelor’s degree in Management from Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, and earned a master’s in Business Administration from the Sawyer School of Management at Suffolk University in Boston. He also earned a certificate in Health Care Management from Boston University’s Graduate School of Management.
