Strategy for hospital network progress

Phyathai Hospital Group
Bangkok, Thailand

Project scope:

Phyathai Hospital Group is a private health care delivery organization operating four hospitals. The group partnered with then-Harvard Medical International (HMI) in the mid-1990s to explore the future evolution of its facilities, clinical programs, and operating systems.

Collaboration with PHMI:

Our collaboration with Phyathai Hospital Group had two phases spanning a decade. In the first phase, HMI assisted in the design and programmatic development of the Phyathai Heart Center, a center of excellence for cardiac care developed in 1998. Economic conditions in Southeast Asia thwarted further collaboration until 2005, when HMI and Phyathai Hospital Group rejuvenated the relationship. From 2005 until 2008, HMI assisted Phyathai in mapping out a systematic multi-phase strategy for redeveloping the hospitals within its network. This work focused on re-aligning physical infrastructure with Phyathai’s new service lines, and planning the selection and deployment of new equipment to replace outdated technologies.

Over the course of the relationship, HMI also developed numerous professional development opportunities at the Harvard Medical School-affiliated hospitals for Phyathai physicians and nurses.
